Everybody asks me why I don’t play in Southern California that much. Back in the early days we played down there all the time: the Roxy, the Country Club, Santa Monica Civic, the Universal Amphitheater, the Hollywood Bowl, etc. I quit going down there when I started doing mornings on KFOX because it was just too much. Now that I am footloose and fancy free, it gives me great pleasure to announce the return of the Greg Kihn Band to SoCal!
A lot of people have been conjecturing about my reticence to play in the southern climes of our fair state. Is it the fact that my second ex lives down there? My ex managers and record companies? My debtors and former lawyers? Or is it because of the beautiful people? Is it a Dodgers thing? Is it because they have also so many great Jewish delis down there like Greenblatt’s, Canter’s, Jerry’s, Jilly’s and Art’s, and we have none? Is it because they lured the Raiders away from Oakland? Is it the Oscars? Is it the headquarters of narcissism in this country? Is it Divorce Town USA? (It was for me.)
No!
I just never had an offer. I guess I slipped off the radar screen for a while. Morning radio does that to a guy.
But all that changes on May 4 when the GKB takes to the air and flies down to San Diego for a gig! I haven’t played in San Diego in years; it’s a wonderful city with a great beach and nice people. I’ve had many great adventures down there and I can’t wait to get back and see all my fans in San Diego. If you’re planning on going, please take the time to introduce yourself and say hello. And if you’re planning a road trip- let’s party!
